Trust Your Intuition

There’s this wonderful, and strongly under used thing in you called your Intuition. We all know we have it, we sometimes feel it, but most of the time we don’t know how to use it. We might not even want to because it usually makes no sense to others and maybe even to ourselves. And if you use it they call you crazy, reckless or even stupid.

Here is my story with intuition.

I have a strong one. I always had. For the longest time it made no sense to me and I ignored it as much as I could. So of course the universe faced me with all the situations where I had to make a choice. It was either what made sense logically and in our society (basically what everyone did) or what my heart longed for (basically what didn’t make sense to everyone else but the feeling I had deep inside me). Ever since I learnt an extremely important lesson, and that is to listen to that voice inside of me, I have never been able to ignore my intuition since. It only becomes louder these days and if I ignore it even just a little, my body intervenes.

What’s so hard about following our intuition or our heart is that no one taught us how. Few people live a life according to their hearts desire and it’s sad but that’s how it is. We are all born with that inner compass that actually knows exactly what to do, but we never learn to use it and how to navigate through life with it. So if you’ve never listened to it, it’s hard and scary to act on it. Because naturally your head becomes involved, wants to make the situation logic, wants an explanation, but what the heart wants often can’t be explained and certainly isn’t logical.

But here’s the thing. It needs to be right for you. No one has and ever will know how you feel, and they don’t have to. You, your experiences, thoughts and feelings are unique and they belong to you.

So if you can hear that voice inside of you, next time listen to it. Don’t shut it down and don’t surpress it. This is your intuition. It wants to talk to you. Have a conversation with it and observe what’s happening in your body, is your head getting involved? Can you accept your head but also accept your intuition?

The great thing is that intuition is like a muscle. The more you will use it, the stronger it becomes. The first few times are hard, it will feel wrong and unfamiliar to act on it because you are probably so used to doing what’s expected of you. And I get it, I’ve been there. But keep trusting it, and don’t give in to what others have to say.

You stay true to yourself. It’s the bravest thing you can do but also it’s your responsibility to live your best life. The one that is true for you.

Don’t live your life for someone else. They will always have an opinion no matter what you’re going to do and you will never be good enough for everyone, so you might as well be good enough for yourself.

My tips on how to connect to your intuition are always to come back into the body. Lay or sit down comfortably, close your eyes, and just observe what’s happening in your body. How are you breathing? Where can you feel it? Where in your body does it feel good and where do you feel tension? Just observe what the body does. Can you find some stillness?

Or go for a walk in nature. Do something that helps you connect to your body. Ask yourself what the best version of you would do right now. Would it really be choosing what you’re expected to or would it be going for that leap of faith but you know it will make you happy?
